Orange is the new black.

Orange paraded down the runways at Spring 2011 New York Fashion Week shows. Many witnesses would even venture to say that it was the prominent color at the event. Appearing in multiple collections across a wide range of designers, it may be safe to say "orange is the new black."

Mulberry, Carlos Miele, Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Tory Burch, and Vena Cava all showed the vibrant color in their new spring line.

Elie Tahari's new collection is also full of the bold color. This dress is one of my favorite pieces from the new collection. This orange shift dress retails at $368.00.
 Elie Tahari ($368.00)

Although not identical, the new LonghornFashions.com arrival by Theme seems to resemble the fitted bodice and burnt orange color of the dress. You can even remove the belt and add a camel color skinny belt, as shown in the picture of the Elie Tahari dress.

Milly also seems to have been inspired by the color that Longhorn fans have been cherishing for years. Designers want to focus on the energizing effect of the color orange and bring out the excitement of the color.

Milly ($288)

The new Longhorn Fashions scarf by designer Allen Allen has a similar effect of this top. It's rich color and eccentric design are unbeatable. You can pair this fabulous scarf with a white or burnt orange top, a dress, or over a jacket. Within a matter of seconds you transform a boring outfit into a stylish ensemble.

Two other trends of the spring 2011 season are embellishments and animal print. Why not combine multiple trends in these two great pieces?

These girls looked so stylish in their Longhorn Fashions apparel and accessories. Texas did not win the

Longhorn Fashions in the Austin American Statesman!

Thank you Austin American Statesman for including Longhorn Fashions in your article on making burnt orange work in a stylish wardrobe.

"If you're on the hunt, some of my favorites selections include the orange-and-gray-striped Black Halo dress at Estilo (234 W. Second St. 236-0488, www.estiloaustin.com), the jacket from the private label Maude at Langford Market (249 W. Second St. 482-8500) and a silk wrap dress by Eight Sixty, which I spotted online at www.longhorn
fashions.com, a new style e-commerce site founded by UT alumna Tessie Watson, 23, who lives in Austin. (The website, which is updated daily, offers stylish options even for people who don't love orange.) Selections on the website this week are less than $75 per item, and in the future, Watson wants to offer exclusive garments.
Said Watson: "I went in search of all things burnt orange and white to get pieces that were unique and more flattering than the typical T-shirt. It's not just game-day attire."

University of Texas alum Tessie Watson has launched a line of longhorn-inspired apparel and accessories for the "fashionably spirited."
The Texas Longhorn Fashions website sells limited-quantity burnt orange and white designs, including long and short dresses, jumpers, tops, bags, jewelry and more. Watson, a former Texas Spirit participant, said the site will be updated regularly with new fashions that will be sold at a "discounted price."
The site currently features a "Star of ATX" line of tees and shirt dresses from the Jolie & Elizabeth fashion house, all made in the U.S. Watson hopes to regularly feature new designers and collections over time. Each piece will be named after an Austin place or event and include a description of its namesake.
"I want to reach out to other young creatives and help them succeed with every opportunity I have," Watson said.

Tips for Picking Out a Winning Game Day Outfit

1. Stand Out In the Crowd.
-The majority of Longhorn Fashion's apparel can be found only on this site. They are truly one of a kind!

2. Dress For The Weather.
-Check the weather! There is a good chance it will be in the high 90s that day, so choose an outfit that is sweat proof.
(Hint: The white cotton star of atx dress or tshirt would be ideal...just sayin')

3. Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize.
-The key to being the cutest gal in the crowd is adding that final touch. Order our signature burnt orange and gold necklaces, earrings and bracelets to make sure your ensemble is both spirited and unique.

4. Be Comfortable. Remember- Tailgating Is An All Day Affair!
-Make sure your outfit fits properly and will not leave you eager to go change mid-day (no one wants to leave the party!). Also, make sure you ponder the right shoe choice. Cowboy boots are always a fashionable game day option, but consider adding some Dr. Scholl's to the heel.

5. When Choosing a Purse, Think Fashion + Functionality.
-Carrying the perfect size purse is essential to a stress free game day! You need a purse big enough to hold your wallet, ticket, phone, and other necessities. However, it is imperative that your purse is not TOO big. If so, you will feel bogged down and be regretting your decision to carry a Mary Poppins size bag mid-day.Side strap bags are a winning game day choice!
